Applications

Hines has custom designed and manufactured balancing machines to balance autonomous sensors on self driving cars. The Hines Industries custom model HVR-50 is a computer based, two plane, manual load, single station balancing machine. The balance mechanism uses a rugged hard suspension HVR (vertical axis, rotating) system to support the weight of the workpiece. Unlike most Hines HVR machines, this machine has no spindle and instead is driven by the motorized lidar assembly.

Contact us to find the best balancing solution that is unique to your sensor needs. The Hines team has produced an entire line of balancing equipment that includes manual, semi-automatic, and fully automatic systems for a wide variety of tolerances and manufacturing throughput requirements.

Hines offers laser locator technology to improve the accuracy of part corrections. Visual laser lines are available on all balancing machines to orientate parts on the balancer for disallowed correction locations.

On manual and semi-automated machines, Hines laser technology shows an operator where to correct the part by displaying a laser line or dot on the area of the part that requires balance correction. The operator can add or remove weight to the part with confidence.

On fully automated machines, Hines utilizes distant lasers to measure the runout of components and to verify part orientation for correcting in designated areas.

Call Hines for a specification for your balancing machine with the laser technology option.

The goal of balancing is to align the mass center (principal axis of inertia) with the geometric axis (centerline) which includes the center of gravity of the workpiece. To do this, the tooling must be accurate enough to hold the workpiece in precisely the same manner as the workpiece will be held in its final application. If the tooling fails to do this, then no matter how well balanced the workpiece is on the balancing machine, the workpiece may vibrate in its final application.

Hines Industries specializes in stock or custom tooling systems for precision balancing. Whether the balancer is an HC, HO, HVR, HVS, or Special, Hines provides the right tooling answer.

This includes:

  • Adapter Plates
  • Collets

Balancing Machines With Roboticsrobotic balancing machine manufacturer

Hines Industries has decades of experience designing and manufacturing automated balancing machines with conveyors and multi-axis robotic equipment.

Shown is fully automated balancing machine designed by Hines in the early 80's demonstrating our leadership in automation.

Today, Hines robotic solutions are typically used for:

  • Part loading
  • Part transfer
  • Balance corrections (removing or adding weight)
  • Part Sorting (good and reject bin)Robotics

By utilizing robots, operating costs and part throughput time are reduced while increasing product quality. Our infinite combination of automated options, along with the engineering capability to accommodate special needs and requests, allows you to optimize the balance between upfront cost and production demands.

Balancing Machines with Robotic Transfer

Shown is an example of 3 semi-automated balancing machines being fed with a single robot. The robot manually loads one component at a time into each balancing machine. The balancing machine determines the initial unbalance and corrects by drilling in both counterweights simultaneously. After the correction, the balancer audits the workpiece to confirm that the residual unbalance is within programmed tolerance levels. The robot then removes the workpiece from the balancing machine into the correct bin (good or reject).

The right balancing machine for you depends on many variables related to your part attributes such as weight, production throughput requirements, and budget. Wood Chipper balancers are typicallys based on the Hines Cradle Balancing Machine (HC).
